Insufficient Records

Books and records were not provided when requested.  A failure to provide records penalty was assessed according to RCW 51.48.040. This penalty comes with a price tag of $250 per occurrance. That means the Field Auditor can fine each employee in each quarter. Also, it applies to employers that thought they had  hired independent contractors. This is not a business friendly State. Unfortunately, L&I is not  honoring the First Time Waiver of Penalties (Senate Bill 5042) that can waive first-time paperwork violations.
