Bills aimed at Washington State ferry worker benefits

The Associated Press  OLYMPIA, Wash. —

A package of bills in the Washington state House and Senate would bring the compensation and benefits for state ferry workers in line with other state employees.

The Kitsap Sun reports the bills were introduced Monday by Democratic and Republican leaders. They say the goal is to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

The bill would prevent labor agreements for ferry workers from being more generous than agreements with other public employees regarding overtime, holidays, meals, leave and travel time.
